Bushell House is a large spacious Georgian grade two listed building set in its own grounds in the rural village of Goosnargh. It is registered to provide personal care and accommodation for up to 31 adults. accommodation is provided in single rooms, all of which are en-suite. There are a number of communal rooms including lounges, dining rooms and a library.

The home was established in 1743 as a charitable trust by Dr William Bushell in the home of his father Rev William Bushell to provide a home offering care and support to elderly people in the local area. At Bushell House we strive to ensure that every resident feels this is his or her home.

Susan Barr joined Bushell House as Deputy Manager five years ago and was promoted to the post of manager, two and half years ago. She said that she loves what she does and enjoys being part of a charity, with a fabulous staff team and great support from the Trustees. Susan feels it important to inform other care providers, who may be considering taking part in the scheme, about the process and the impact it had on the residents, staff and Management of their home.

Sue commented “I think the world of RDB Star Rating. It is well worth doing and more in depth than CQC inspections. It is also very useful and helps us to continually improve our care and services. The tool is holistic and in depth and the annual two-day assessment is very thorough, gentle and fairly painless. Preparing for the RDB inspection makes me review all the homes care plans, risk assessments, policies, procedures, documentation and working practices, to assess whether they are up to date and still relevant.

The RDB Care Quality Assessors (CQAs) are professional and approachable and every department in the care home is assessed. Residents, Staff and Management are interviewed, and the homes records and documentation reviewed. The CQA picks up on things that need reviewing or updating.

Residents and staff enjoy their talks with the CQA and staff morale and confidence is greatly improved during the annual RDB inspection. After the assessment both Management and Staff are on a high, proud of what they have achieved and keen to discuss the positive actions they are going to take, to implement future developments in their care home.”
